News today announced the Salk team expanded after their previous development of a drug candidate, called J147, which takes a different tack by focusing on Alzheimer's major risk factor-old age. Inside the new work, the team demonstrated that the drug prospect worked well in a mouse model of increasing age not typically used in Alzheimer's research. When these mice were treated with J147, they had better memory and cognition, much healthier blood vessels in the brain and other better physiological features,
News today announced "Initially, the impetus was going to test this drug in a novel animal model that was more similar to 99 per cent of Alzheimer's cases, " claims Antonio Currais, the business lead author and an affiliate of Professor David Schubert's Cellular Neurobiology Laboratory at Salk. "We would not predict we'd see this kind of anti-aging effect, but J147 made old mice appear to be they were young, established on a number of physiological parameters. "
